QR Codes for EU Business โ€” Use Cases

QR codes have become a standard business tool across the EU. From restaurant menus to business cards, product packaging to payment links, a QR code generator is an essential tool for any modern EU entrepreneur.

URL QR Codes โ€” Website & Landing Pages

The most common use case. Add a URL QR code to your printed materials โ€” business cards, flyers, brochures, exhibition stands, packaging โ€” so customers can instantly visit your website, product page, or booking link. Always use HTTPS URLs for security.

Wi-Fi QR Codes โ€” For Offices & Hospitality

A Wi-Fi QR code lets guests connect to your network without typing a password. Simply scan the code and the device connects automatically. Widely used in hotels, restaurants, co-working spaces, and office reception areas across Europe. GDPR-compliant as no personal data is collected.

vCard QR Codes โ€” Digital Business Cards

Replace paper business cards with a vCard QR code. When scanned, it automatically adds your contact details to the recipient's phone. Include name, company, phone, email, website and address. Particularly popular at EU trade shows and B2B networking events.

IBAN Payment QR Codes

EU payment QR codes (based on the EPC QR code standard used by European banks) allow customers to initiate a bank transfer by scanning a QR code. Our IBAN QR generator creates a standard payment QR that can be added to invoices โ€” compatible with most EU banking apps that support instant SEPA transfers.

QR Codes on EU Product Packaging

EU regulations increasingly require QR codes on product packaging โ€” particularly for the Digital Product Passport (DPP) initiative under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR). From 2027, many product categories will require a machine-readable QR code linking to sustainability data.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are generated QR codes stored on your servers?
No. All QR codes are generated entirely in your browser using JavaScript. No data is sent to our servers. Your URLs, Wi-Fi passwords, contact details and other content stay on your device. You can use this tool offline after the page has loaded.
Do QR codes expire?
Static QR codes (like the ones generated here) never expire. They encode data directly in the pattern โ€” as long as the destination URL or content is still valid, the QR code will work indefinitely. Dynamic QR codes (which redirect through a tracking URL) can expire if the service stops โ€” we generate static codes to avoid this.
What size should a QR code be for print?
For print, the minimum recommended size is 2cm ร— 2cm at 300 DPI. For reliable scanning from 30cm distance, use at least 3cm ร— 3cm. For large-format printing (posters, banners), scale proportionally. Download at 400px from our tool for print quality, or use SVG format in dedicated design software for best results.
Can I use colored QR codes?
Yes, with important caveats. Always keep high contrast between foreground (dark) and background (light). Never use a light foreground on dark background โ€” this can confuse most QR scanners. Avoid red foregrounds as some scanners struggle with red. Our default dark blue on white offers excellent contrast and scannability.
